Building Self Confidence

              Building Self Confidence

“When you know your worth, no one can make you feel worthless.”

If you ever feel inadequate or timid and are afraid of making mistakes and letting people down, you might be lacking self-confidence. There are several factors that can lead to low self-esteem, like a hard or unhappy childhood, critical teachers, any form of bullying, or simply ongoing stressful circumstances. All these things can affect your confidence in negative ways, causing you to doubt yourself and your ability to overcome.

If you find yourself in this position, struggling to put yourself out there or take action towards accomplishing your goals, here are a few things you can do to build your confidence!

Take Care of Yourself

Or in the words of Dr. Jordan Peterson “treat yourself like someone you care about.”

To improve your self-confidence, it is important that you take care of yourself. When chasing after your dreams, you want to feel your best because that’s what will give you the energy to keep going through the inevitable obstacles and setbacks. To do this, you need to take care of your physical health and hygiene as well as your mental well-being. Do things that keep you happy and healthy.

The great thing about making yourself a priority, is that there is no one way to do it. You could simply dress in a way that makes you feel the most comfortable, get outside and enjoy the fresh air, take a nap after a long day of work – the possibilities are endless. By implementing healthy habits, you’ll naturally begin to feel more confident with and who you are!

Celebrate Your Small Wins

When you think about celebrating your wins, you might think about long-term goals or those rare times you experience a major breakthrough. Those big wins are great—but they usually don’t happen very often. The good news is that celebrating small wins like showing up to an event on time, making a healthy meal choice, or decluttering a space in your house, can also build confidence and boost your mood in the same way.

Reflect on everything you’ve accomplished, big and small, and write them down. We often overlook our daily routines and all the little tasks we accomplish. A lot of us have lived through some hard circumstances and difficult times, give yourself credit where credit is due. Think back on all you’ve accomplished and consider everything you’ve overcome to get to where you are today. All the things that have shaped you into who you are.

Develop a sense of pride in yourself, your resiliency, and your accomplishments. This will build your self-confidence and make you feel more prepared to tackle what’s next.

Get Out of Your Comfort Zone

While pushing yourself out of your comfort zone may seem intimidating, there are a lot of benefits that will come from it. By pushing yourself to the point of being uncomfortable, you can learn and grow in ways you never thought were possible. You’ll be proud of yourself and, in turn, feel more confident in your abilities to do hard things.

To break out of your comfort zone, try something new every day, something that scares you a little. Say yes to something you have been putting off, take a class and learn a new skill, or simply get out there and experience something new. You will have to grow beyond the safe, predictable environment that you have been living in and get comfortable with being uncomfortable. There’s no need to put yourself in an unsafe situation, but just try something you may not have had the confidence to do before. You might fail but that’s okay, the goal is to just try, and you will be proud of yourself for that.

Keep the Promises You Make to Yourself

Self-confidence isn’t something anyone else can give you. It is earned, one small action at a time. When you say you’re going to do something, do it. When you say you’re going to be somewhere, be there. When you say you’re going to quit something, quit.

Take care of yourself, celebrate your wins, get out of your comfort zone, keep the promises you make to yourself and watch your self-confidence skyrocket! Want to connect and share your story? Reach out to us at
